Discover the Joy of Having a Home Golf Course

Golf is an integral part of Springfield Golf and Country Club. Our 18 hole, 71 par, 6,609 yard championship golf course is designed to accommodate players of all levels and beautifully maintained by our Course Superintendent and his crew. We have something for every golfer in the family - even if they don't know they're a golfer yet! Each year, our Golf Professionals and Golf Committee work diligently to put together a program of both competitive and recreational events including tournaments, clinics, and private lessons. Our practice facilities include a driving range, a putting green, and a short game area.

Make Springfield Your Home Course

Dedicated Staff

We are extremely proud of our talented, award-winning golf professional staff. With a range of expertise and a shared dedication to the great game of golf, our staff is ready to assist the membership in bettering their game with everything from private lessons and small-group clinics to fittings and the latest gear. Our staff schedules programming for beginners and competitive-level players of all ages as well as a robust slate of tournaments and recreational play. SGCC is a certified Operation 36 Training Facility and we utilize the Op36 curriculum in our training programs for adults and juniors.

Audubon Certified

Springfield Golf and Country Club is a Certified Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary. This certification designates SGCC as an environmental steward and means we use best management practices in environmental planning, wildlife and habitat management, chemical use reduction and safety, water conservation, water quality management, and outreach and education. Some of our initiatives include wildflower and pollinating gardens and nature trails which allow members to try and spot the 113+ species of bird that call our course home. During our Recertification in 2021, the inspector commented that the environmental initiatives taking place at SGCC are among the best of the nearly hundred Audubon Certified golf courses in the US and Canada.

Description:
The opening hole at SGCC provides a nice handshake to introduce the player to the course. Keep your tee shot right of the fairway bunker and you’ll have a great look into this green. Short is the best miss with your approach as the back left portion of the green slopes away into a tightly mown runoff area.

Operation 36 Program

We want to spread the love at Springfield Golf & Country Club which is why we are so passionate about our beginner golfer programs.

We are proud to be an Operation 36 Certified Training Facility. The Operation 36 development model is used for both juniors and adults, and aims to get our golfers to shoot (par) 36 or better from a full tee-box. This model creates tangible, achievable goals and allows our coaches to track player development over time. During a typical golf season, Springfield Golf and Country Club offers its members adult Operation 36 bootcamps, 8-week junior academies, 3-day junior summer camps, and Future 36ers powered by Birdie Basics for our youngest golfers.

League Play

We have a variety of golf leagues ranging from social leagues to competitive leagues and leagues somewhere in between.

Our Women's Golf Association has a 9-hole group and an 18-hole group with options for dual membership. We also field teams for ARFAX and WDCGA, and have a Career Women's group for ladies unable to hit the links during the week. We have a Men's A Team, Men's B Team, Senior A, and Senior B teams which compete against area clubs in the spring. The Springfield Retirees are part of the Northern Virginia Retired Men's Golf Association and enjoy camaraderie and friendly competition. Our in-house Couples Golf group enjoys playing together on Friday evenings and Sunday afternoons, then gathering together on the Patio afterward!

Junior Golf

Springfield Golf and Country Club boasts a thriving, multi-faceted junior golf program for players ages 3-17.

We field both interclub and intraclub PGA Junior League teams which enables us to ensure all players get match play experience. We apply the Operation 36™ model to our junior golf program in the form of 8-week academies in the spring and fall, half-day summer camps, and as a way to introduce our youngest golfers to the game using Birdie Basics™. Our Golf Professionals and Golf Committee also plan a host of fun junior events throughout the season including a Pro-Junior Tournament, the PGA Family Cup, and a Junior Club Championship.  You will often see juniors in their blue and orange PGA Junior League jerseys honing their skills on the putting green!

Bobby Bowers Memorial
Junior Golf Tournament

The Bobby Bowers Memorial Junior Golf Tournament was created to honor Springfield Golf & Country Club's first Head Golf Professional.

Bobby was well known throughout the Washington, D.C. area for his work with junior golfers until his untimely death due to cancer in 1974. The championship is recognized as a major national junior golf event. Each year, 240 junior golfers ages 10-18 visit our golf course and begin stroke play to qualify for match play. Qualifying is a near dawn-to-dusk, one-day marathon round similar to the US Junior Amateur. Many Bobby Bowers participants have gone on to star in college and professional golf and work in the golf industry.
